Worcester, Mass.-based St. Vincent Hospital met the Dec. 12 deadline to submit its correction plan to the state and CMS, meaning the Tenet Healthcare-owned hospital is no longer at risk of losing Medicare and Medicaid funding.
St. Vincent Hospital's government contracts were put in jeopardy after CMS and the state Department of Public Health investigated a wrong-patient surgery. A patient identification error led a surgeon to remove a healthy kidney from a patient.
The hospital's correction plan was accepted ahead of schedule on Nov. 29, according to Erica Noonan, a hospital spokeswoman.
"St. Vincent leaders worked closely with state and federal officials to ensure all aspects of the plan were completed well in advance of the deadline," she said in an emailed statement.
According to the Telegram, regulators required the hospital to develop and implement a hospitalwide data-driven quality assessment and performance improvement program.
