A multistate salmonella outbreak, which lead to a recall of nearly 207 million eggs produced by Rose Acre Farms, has sickened 35 people on the East Coast, The Washington Post reports.
Here are six things to know.
1. The CDC reported April 20 that the contaminated eggs sickened 23 people. That number has since grown to 35, according to the CDC.
2. The outbreak has resulted in 11 hospitalizations. No deaths have been reported.
3. The outbreak has been traced to a single egg producer, Rose Acre Farms, which led to a recall of 207 million eggs produced at its Hyde County, N.C.-based farm.
4. Rose Acre Farms sold the recalled eggs under brand names such as Great Value, Country Daybreak and Crystal Farms.
5. During an inspection of the North Carolina farm, conducted by the FDA between March 26 and April 11, federal regulators found live rodents in feed and production areas. They also reported "visibly dirty" production equipment.
6. Rose Acre Farms officials told The Washington Post they were "disheartened" to hear of additional illnesses tied to its eggs.
