PCORI offers $76M in research funding

The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute is allocating $76 million in funding for research focused on healthcare improvement.

PCORI's funding opportunities come less than month after the institute gained reauthorization from Congress as part of a federal spending bill signed Dec. 20. The group's original charter — slated to expire Sept. 30 — was temporarily extended until Dec. 20 without funding mechanisms.

PCORI began accepting research proposals Jan. 7. The group is accepting proposals on all topics for this funding cycle, although it's primarily interested in research on maternal mortality and on intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Other research areas the group will prioritize are suicide prevention, peripheral artery disease and genetic sequencing to inform cancer treatment.
