A company recalled approximately 206 million eggs after a salmonella outbreak was linked to one of its North Carolina farms, according to The New York Times.
Eggs from the affected farm were distributed to nine states, including Colorado, Florida, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia, the FDA reported April 13. The FDA said the eggs were likely connected to 22 reported cases of salmonella infections.
The FDA discovered a cluster of salmonella outbreaks in several states last month. Investigators worked with the CDC and state authorities to find the source of the illness, which led the agency to a Hyde County, N.C.-based egg farm owned by Rose Acre Farms. The company offers shell eggs, specialty eggs and egg products.
The affected farm halted its egg distribution and the company has voluntarily recalled more than 206 million eggs. The FDA told consumers to check their purchases and avoid eating possibly contaminated eggs.
