Nurse denied London Marathon record over clothing choice

A nurse was denied the Guinness World Record of being the fastest woman to run the London Marathon in a nurse's uniform because she did not wear a dress and apron, reports The New York Times.

Jessica Anderson, a nurse at Royal London Hospital, beat the previous record — set in 2015 — by 32 seconds. However, Guinness World Records did not recognize her feat because she ran in her blue work scrubs.

"They said it had to be a white or blue dress, pinafore apron and white cap or it wouldn't count as a record," Ms. Anderson told NYT May 5.

Many nurses and others spoke out against Guinness World Records on social media, claiming the criteria was sexist and disrespectful.

"It is quite clear that this record title and associated guidelines is long overdue a review, which we will conduct as a priority in the coming days," Guinness World Records said in a statement to NYT.
