Northwestern Medicine Leads Collaborative to Improve Surgical Quality in Illinois

Chicago-based Northwestern Medicine, the American College of Surgeons and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois have partnered to create an Illinois-wide collaborative to improve the quality of surgical care, the Illinois Surgical Quality Improvement Collaborative.

The three-year partnership is funded by BCBSIL and will facilitate analysis of surgical practices and outcomes throughout the state, powered by the ACS's National Surgical Quality Improvement Program.

Participating hospitals will receive performance reports, and Northwestern Medicine's Surgical Outcomes andQuality Improvement Center will offer quality improvement training, according to a news release.

The ISQIC hopes to capitalize on teamwork to improve outcomes and reduce costs, according to the news release.
