New hospital certification offered for heart failure treatment

Megan Knowles -

The American Heart Association and The Joint Commission launched a cardiovascular certification program for hospitals looking to ensure patients with heart failure can access the latest evidence-based care.

The Advanced Heart Failure Certification program stems from the most recent heart failure clinical practice guidelines. Hospitals applying for this certification must be active participants in the American Heart Association's Get With The Guidelines-Heart Failure program, a hospital-based quality improvement program that aims to close gaps in cardiovascular disease treatment.

The certification program also requires organizations to meet the following criteria:

  • Collect data on certification measures for inpatient and outpatient care
  • Provide ambulatory care services either through a hospital-collaborative relationship with one or more cardiology practices
  • Meet requirements of the certification program

For more information on the certification program, email The Joint Commission at certification@jointcommission.org or the American Heart Association at accreditation@heart.org.
