New CDC guidance updates PPE protocols

Staff -

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has updated its guidance on personal protective equipment for U.S. healthcare workers treating Ebola.

The new guidance focuses on three principles: all healthcare workers should undergo rigorous training to become practiced and competent with PPE, no skin should be exposed when PPE is worn and all workers should be supervised by a trained monitor when putting PPE on and taking it off to ensure all protocols are followed.

The guidance reflects safe treatment practices observed at hospitals that have successfully and safely treated patients with Ebola.
