Most Americans prefer paper towels to air dryers after washing hands

Brian Zimmerman -

Nearly 7 in 10 Americans prefer to use paper towels instead of air dryers after washing their hands, according to a survey conducted by Harris Poll and commissioned by the Cintas Corporation.

For the survey, Harris Poll asked more than 2,000 U.S. adults for their opinions on hand-drying methods from May 19-23. Sixty-nine percent of respondents said they preferred paper towels to air dryers. Among the reasons for this preference, 70 percent said paper towels dry hands better, 69 percent said paper towels dry hands faster, 52 percent cited the benefit of using paper towels to open the bathroom door, 24 percent said air dryers spread bacteria and 22 percent said air dryers are too loud.

"What this data tells us is that the majority of Americans want a quick, thorough and hygienic public restroom experience," said John Engel, director of marketing at Cintas.
