Montefiore installs measles alert in emergency response system

Montefiore Nyack (N.Y.) Hospital updated its existing communication system for emergency responders to include a measles alert.

The hospital treats patients in Rockland County, N.Y., known as one of the epicenters of the measles outbreak. Twiage, the emergency responders' communication system, provides pre-hospital communication with first responders and emergency department staff to better prepare for incoming patients.

Working with Twiage, Montefiore Nyack Hospital developed an alert within the system that helps identify patients with measles symptoms who may require isolated care.

Montefiore Nyack Hospital has also implemented enhanced screening protocols for visitors and walk-ins to the ED.

As of May 3, the CDC confirmed 764 measles cases for 2019. The updated case count marked the highest number of infections reported since 1994.
