Mayo Clinic, radio station partner to pipe classical music into patient rooms

Staff -

Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic and Minnesota Public Radio have teamed up to provide patients at Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, Phoenix and Jacksonville, Fla., with free classical music streaming in their rooms.

"Among the various art forms, music is the best studied and the most convincingly demonstrated to provide health benefits to patients," said Paul Scanlon, MD, medical director of the Mayo Clinic Dolores Jean Lavins Center for Humanities in Medicine. "We are delighted to join with MPR to bring high-quality classical music programming to our patients and visitors."

Through the agreement, which went into effect Sept. 1, MPR's national programming division will supply up to 17 hours of streaming classical music for free.

Patients can access the stream through Mayo's Video on Demand TV service at the Arizona, Florida and Minnesota campuses and also on Mayo's TV Humanities Channel at the Rochester campus.
