Two babies at UPMC's Magee-Women's Hospital in Pittsburgh have developed methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus infections since February, according to a WTAE report.
The hospital has historically had a low rate of MRSA infections in its newborn population, a spokeswoman told WTAE, and in these two new cases, the families and state agencies were properly notified.
"The health and safety of all of our patients at Magee-Women's Hospital of UPMC are our top priority," the statement reads, according to WTAE. "That is why we work aggressively to prevent all patient infections, including MRSA, and emphasize proper hand hygiene and take multiple precautions with staff and families."
