Lurie Children's Hospital urges Chicagoans to get flu shots

Megan Knowles -

Chicago-based Lurie Children's Hospital is making phone calls to local residents reminding them to get vaccinated as flu activity heightens across the country, NBC Chicago reports.

"I might not be telling you anything new here, but anyone over 6 months old needs the flu vaccine," a voicemail from the hospital announces.

This is the second round of phone calls the hospital has made this flu season.

Nine children died in Illinois during the 2017-18 flu season. As of Jan. 26, the CDC has reported 24 U.S. pediatric flu deaths for this season.

Lurie's officials said they want patients to know it isn't too late to get the vaccine.

"Getting the vaccine helps protect your health and the health of those around you, especially kids," the voicemail states.
