IU Health provides hands-on nurse training in escape room

Indianapolis-based Indiana University Health is training its nurses using a rather unusual tool — an escape room, according to Fox 59, a Fox-affiliated TV station.

The exercise involved first-year nurses who unlocked the door to their escape room by gathering clues from a dummy patient. Their instructor narrated for the dummy from behind mirrored glass.

This is the second time IU Health has used an escape room to provide hands-on training for its nurses, with a focus on quality and safety.

"I think when you're doing things hands on it sticks in your head better than sitting in a classroom and learning," Morgen Nolan, a first year nurse, told Fox 59.

Additionally, a clinical nurse educator told Fox 59 that the "game atmosphere" helps reduce stress.
