Nurse job satisfaction is strongly tied to positive patient outcomes, according to the American Nurses Association National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators.
Data from the NDNQI indicate a 25 percent increase in nurse job satisfaction correlates with a 29 percent increase in nurse intent to stay in a job and a quality of care increase of between 5 and 20 percent, all over two years.
Increase in nurse job satisfaction also made for a safer environment for patients, including a 17 percent decrease in patient falls over four years, a pressure ulcer decrease of between 24 and 59 percent over two years and an 87 percent decrease in infection rates over two years.
