#FluBeforeBoo: How AAP is promoting flu vaccines in October

The American Academy of Pediatrics is adopting a new hashtag in October to promote flu vaccinations, reports ABC affiliate WHAM.

The hashtag — #FluBeforeBoo — is meant to encourage Americans to get their flu shots before Halloween, per the CDC's recommendations.

Elizabeth Murray, DO, an AAP member and physician at the University of Rochester (N.Y.) Medical Center, came up with the hashtag.

People develop antibodies against the flu about two weeks after vaccination, so they should receive a flu shot in early fall before flu season starts, according to the CDC.
