Flu cases surpass national baseline as peak season nears

For the week of Jan. 31 to Feb. 6, the proportion of outpatient visits in the U.S. for flu or flu-like illness reached 2.4 percent, surpassing the national baseline of 2.1 percent according to the CDC.

Two pediatric deaths associated with flu were reported, bringing the total reported deaths for this season to 11. Seven of 10 U.S. regions have reported flu activity rising above respective regional levels, and for every 100,000 hospitalizations, 3.2 were related to laboratory-confirmed influenza.
