E. coli outbreak linked to 6 California counties

Harrison Cook -

The FDA and CDC found the E. coli outbreak affecting romaine lettuce is traceable to six counties in California, according to a report from the FDA.

The traceback investigation included the FDA and CDC conducting a comprehensive review of shipping records and invoices to trace the romaine lettuce supply related to cases of illness.

Current evidence shows the romaine lettuce was harvested in Monterey, San Benito, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Santa Cruz and Ventura counties. These counties are in the Central Coast growing regions of Northern and Central California.

Romaine lettuce will be labeled with a harvest location and date. The new labels will also indicate if the lettuce was grown hydroponically or in a greenhouse. The FDA said romaine lettuce not labeled with this information should be avoided.
