San Francisco-based Dignity Health created a joint venture that will offer online academic degrees to clinical and nonclinical professionals in the healthcare industry, the health system announced Jan. 30.

Three things to know:

1. Dignity Health partnered with Global University Systems to launch the joint venture, called Dignity Health Global Education.

2. The company's portfolio will feature training courses, programs and degrees designed and co-created with partner universities.

3. Dignity Health Global Education's first partnership is with Duke Corporate Education, part of Durham, N.C.-based Duke University. The first program offering will be a certificate in nursing leadership.

"Our entire health industry ecosystem needs to open more professional pathways that lead into medical careers," Lloyd Dean, president and CEO of Dignity Health, said in a press release. "Dignity Health has a commitment to furthering the education, training, and development of our clinical and nonclinical workforce so that we are better prepared to meet the health care needs of our patients and communities."

Note: Dignity Health merged with Englewood, Colo.-based Catholic Health Initiatives to become CommonSpirit Health Feb. 1.
