The Democratic Republic of Congo's health ministry identified seven new Ebola cases April 4, which brings the outbreak total to 1,107, reports CIDRAP News.

Three updates:

1. Of the 1,107 Ebola infections, 1,041 are confirmed. Health officials also reported 695 deaths linked to the outbreak, 629 of which are directly linked to the virus. Officials are still investigating an additional 289 suspected cases, and 339 people have been cured.

2. At present, 82 health workers have been infected in the outbreak, and 29 died.

3. The three main outbreak areas are Katwa, Vuhovi and Mandima. The three cities reported 62.5 percent of all Ebola cases in the last three weeks.

"The main difficulties over the last 21 days were the absence of [Ebola treatment centers] in Katwa following the armed attack, the reluctance of part of the community and insecurity in some health areas following activities of armed groups," Congo's health ministry said in an April 3 update.
