Collective Medical rolls out solution to support the public health response to COVID-19 at no cost

In a recent press release, Collective Medical, delivering the leading ADT-based network for real-time care collaboration, announced a solution roll-out to support the public health response to COVID-19 at no cost.

Collective’s platform and expansive nationwide network—which covers many ports of entry into the US—is ideally positioned to support regions’ and states’ ability to identify, treat, trace and analyze infectious diseases, including COVID-19.

Collective is offering this functionality at no charge for all existing organizations on its network. For hospitals, health plans, public health agencies and other healthcare stakeholders not yet participating in Collective’s network, Collective has developed a lightweight and rapidly deployable solution that can be live in under a week for ready and able facilities—there will be no costs incurred by healthcare organizations for this solution through 2020, and there will be no obligation, of any form, to Collective during or after this period for use of the same.

The World Health Organization has classified COVID-19 as a pandemic after 142,539 cases and 5,393 deaths have been confirmed worldwide. These numbers are expected to significantly rise, with some infectious disease experts projecting cases into the millions. According to the Centers for Disease Control, individuals with underlying chronic illness—such as cardiovascular disease, chronic respiratory disease or diabetes—are at higher risk of serious illness from COVID-19. Six in ten Americans have at least one chronic disease.

“Many COVID-19 patients have only mild symptoms or illness and they can recover without the need for hospitalization. But there will be many more that may need intensive care,” says Dr. Amit Shah, chief medical officer at Care Oregon—one of Collective’s leading collaborators on the rapid development of a solution to address COVID-19. “We’ve seen a growing number of cases over the past few days alone—and we expect those numbers will continue to rise. It’s incredibly important that we contain it as much as possible because there is no vaccine.”

Dr. Shah adds that, “The state of Oregon had incredible foresight when it built the statewide health IT infrastructure with Collective Medical. Supporting our care teams across the state in the fight against COVID-19 is just one more example of the value of this utility.”

Collective is ideally positioned to assist public health officials track, identify and locate individuals across the country who are at-risk or have been exposed to COVID-19. By leveraging its nationwide network, notifications are pushed directly into existing workflows, in real-time and at the point of care. This clinically relevant information helps care teams determine which of their patients may require testing, intensive care or isolation.

“We’ve been closely following COVID-19 developments. After consulting with various state and federal agencies and in partnership with our state, hospital association, hospital and health plan stakeholders, we determined that we could quickly deploy a solution to help front-line providers more quickly identify high-risk patients in need to better attack the pandemic,” says Chris Klomp, CEO of Collective Medical. “With careful consideration, we believe that Collective is uniquely positioned to help public health agencies, care teams on the frontlines and other related stakeholders combat and contain the spread of this pandemic—immediately and at scale. We know this is not an end-all be-all solution to this extraordinary challenge, but by working together, collectively, we believe it is important to do our part to mitigate the catastrophic effects of infectious diseases like COVID-19.”

Collective now connects patient data across all 50 states. Physicians, nurses and other care team members benefit from patient insights sourced from every state in the nation. Care teams across all points of care are served by the Collective platform, including those based in hospitals, ACOs, emergency departments, physician practices, long-term and post-acute care facilities and behavioral health practices.
