CDC wants to bring clinical guidelines into the 'digital age': 3 things to know

Jessica Kim Cohen -

The CDC will host a series of meetings in early February investigating how to adapt clinical guidelines for the "digital age."

Here are three things to know about the initiative.

1. The CDC's goal for the effort is to assess how to best develop and distribute clinical guidelines to ensure physicians actively use the recommendations in their practice. The meetings will evaluate how potential changes might impact clinicians, EHR vendors, clinical decision support developers and professional organizations, among other stakeholders.

2. At the meetings, CDC officials plan to discuss how clinical guidelines are disseminated and adopted, along with information on developing an informatics framework to translate clinical guidelines into various formats. CDC officials will also gather stakeholder perspectives related to how evidence is summarized to create standardized guidelines.

3. The meetings will be held Feb. 5 through Feb. 9 at the CDC Century Center in Atlanta. Those interested in the subject are also invited to RSVP for the meeting via webcast by Jan. 17.
