Harrison Cook -

An Emirates airline jet was briefly quarantined at New York City's John F. Kennedy International Airport after about 100 passengers fell ill on a flight coming from Dubai Sept. 5, according to USA Today.

Passengers and crew members "complained of illness, including cough and some with fever," the CDC said in a statement cited by USA Today.

After the flight landed around 9:15 a.m. EDT, Port Authority and CDC officials. evaluated the plane's 521 passengers for illness.

Ultimately, 19 people were deemed sick, according to Eric Phillips, spokesperson for New York City Democratic Mayor Bill de Blasio. Ten individuals required hospitalization, and the other nine refused medical attention.

"Health officials are processing tests now to determine the cause," Mr. Philips wrote in a Sept. 5 tweet. "Symptoms still point to the flu."
