Clinicians at Beaumont Hospital, Farmington Hills (Mich.) successfully revived a male patient who had no vital signs for 20 minutes, reports Fox 2 Detroit.
Michael Pruitt, 20, was electrocuted when the metal ladder he was carrying at a job site touched a live electrical wire. A bystander called 911 and immediately started CPR. First responders showed up four minutes later and continued CPR while transporting Mr. Pruitt to Beaumont Hospital, which is a level 2 trauma center.
"They brought in this perfect young man who had no vital signs. I said to my team, 'We're bringing him back.' And then, I said to him, 'You better come back!'" Angel Chudler, MD, an emergency medicine physician at Beaumont Hospital, told Fox 2 Detroit.
After several shocks from a defibrillator, Mr. Pruitt's heart started beating, and he regained consciousness.
"Michael's resuscitation is miraculous. He did not lose any brain function," said Barbara Smith, RN, director of trauma services at Beaumont Hospital. "It's a testament to the importance of immediate and continuous CPR to move oxygenated blood to the brain."
