Bayfront Health St. Petersburg expands heart program

Harrison Cook -

Bayfront Health St. Petersburg (Fla.) expanded its cardiology program to offer more heart health services at the facility, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

The hospital more than doubled the number of physicians in the cardiology program to eight this year.

John McLain, CEO of Bayfront Health St. Petersburg, wants the hospital to be equipped to handle complex cardiology cases for the residents in the St. Petersburg area.

"We knew we wanted to invest and grow our service lines that mean the most to consumers," McLain told Tampa Bay Times. "So we hired five new physicians for the cardiology program. We want to be the place in South Pinellas where patients come for quality cardiology care."

The new surgical team will be based out of offices in the hospital and have access to the facility's James Heart Center, which features private suites containing high-tech laboratories and equipment to treat a range of heart-related issues.
