Aug. 1 marked the start of National Immunization Awareness Month, a CDC-led campaign to highlight the importance of vaccination.
Three things to know:
1. The CDC holds the campaign annually in August to encourage vaccination among people of all ages.
2. The agency is offering healthcare providers a toolkit featuring educational resources, social media templates and key messages to share with patients.
3. The CDC will also host an immunization-themed webinar later this month.
"National Immunization Awareness Month is an opportunity to highlight the importance of vaccines as a safe and effective way to protect ourselves, our families and our communities from preventable health threats," HHS Secretary Alex Azar said in a statement. "We at HHS and across the Trump Administration cannot emphasize this enough: Vaccines are safe, and they are one of the safest and well-studied public health tools that we have available."
