The Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology selected Cindy Barnard, PhD, as the recipient of its 2018 Healthcare Administrator Award.
Dr. Barnard is vice president of quality for Chicago-based Northwestern Medicine. The award "recognizes the pivotal role healthcare leaders play in establishing an organizational culture that enables and supports infection prevention and control efforts."
At Northwestern, Dr. Barnard leads a robust infection prevention and control program. She recently spearheaded the implementation of a standardized electronic surveillance system to enhance rounding and documentation. Her efforts have helped reduce central line-associated bloodstream infections, catheter-associated urinary tract infections and vancomycin-resistant enterococci transmission at the health system.
