AHA launches flu shot campaign

The American Hospital Association launched the United Against the Flu campaign Oct. 14.

The collaborative effort, which includes several healthcare associations and the CDC, aims to encourage influenza vaccinations this flu season.

From Oct. 1, 2018, through May 4, 2019, there were an estimated 531,000 to 647,000 flu hospitalizations in the U.S., according to the CDC, and more than 27 million were affected by flu-related illnesses. The CDC recommends everyone above the age of 6 months get vaccinated.

Organizations participating in the United Against the Flu campaign include the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology, American Medical Association, Federation of American Hospitals and The Joint Commission.

Resources from the participating organizations are also available.
