78 measles cases reported in 1 week, says CDC

The CDC confirmed 78 new measles cases in the past week, bringing the annual total to 465 infections as of April 4, reports CNN.

Three things to know:

1. The CDC has confirmed measles cases in 19 states. Florida, Indiana, Massachusetts and Nevada all reported their first measles cases of the year last week.

2. The CDC's updated case count is the second-highest number of infections reported in the U.S. since 2000, when the agency declared measles eliminated. In 2014, the CDC confirmed a record 667 cases.

3. The agency noted measles outbreaks are occurring in New York, Washington, California, Michigan and New Jersey. The outbreaks are linked to international travelers who brought the virus back from countries such as Israel, where major outbreaks are occurring.
