Brian Zimmerman -

The following hospitals in Alaska received top marks on patients' HCAHPS surveys for nurse communication.

At least 77 percent of patients surveyed at these five hospitals responded that nurses always communicated well. In Alaska, the average is 76 percent, which sits below the national average of 80 percent.

The figures are from CMS' Hospital Compare website and represent HCAHPS scores collected from October 2015 through September 2016, the most recent data available.

Note: Hospitals with fewer than 100 completed surveys were excluded from this list.

1. South Peninsula Hospital (Homer) — 80 percent

2. Bartlett Regional Hospital (Juneau)— 80 percent

3. Fairbanks Memorial Hospital — 79 percent

4. Mat-Su Regional Medical Center (Palmer) — 77 percent

5. PeaceHealth Ketchikan Medical Center — 77 percent
