42 states receive 'F' for physician quality transparency

Morgan Haefner -

California and Minnesota are the only states receiving an "A" for transparent healthcare quality reporting, according to Altarum's annual state report card.

Altarum's Center for Payment Innovation, along with Catalyst for Payment Reform, has published state report cards on healthcare price and quality transparency for the past four years. This is the first year the organizations combined price and quality transparency scores. The report examines how readily consumers can access healthcare prices and quality information across all 50 states.

High quality transparency grades were given to states with independent quality measure collectors, free and timely databases, data on many physicians incorporating various outcomes measurements, and searchable data that is easy to understand for individuals with lower health literacy.

Here is how all 50 states stacked up.
