21 hospitalized in 29-state antibiotic-resistant Salmonella outbreak

The CDC and public health and regulatory officials in 29 states have launched an investigation into a Salmonella outbreak linked to raw chicken.

Here are four things to know:

1. As of Oct. 15, 92 people from 29 states had been infected with a strain of Salmonella.

2. The illnesses were reported from Jan. 19 to Sept. 9. Twenty-one people were hospitalized. No deaths reported.

3. Samples taken from 92 people revealed the Salmonella is resistant to 13 antibiotics. A single, common supplier of raw chicken products or live chickens has not been identified by the FDA, CDC or local state health workers.

4. Reports of foodborne illness were made in Alabama, California, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Carolina, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and Washington.
