Memorial Home Health nurses brave subzero temps to see patients

Mackenzie Bean -

About 80 registered home health nurses, hospice workers and other caregivers in central Illinois braved subzero temperatures and dangerous wind chill conditions to visit patients Jan. 30, according to The State Journal-Register.

The caregivers work for Memorial Home Health Services, which is a part of Springfield, Ill.-based Memorial Health System's Memorial Home Services subsidiary.

Memorial Home Health Services nurse Jaime Foster, RN, has 20 years of nursing experience, including eight in home health. "It's totally worth it," she told The State Journal-Register of going out in the extreme weather to care for patients.

"The care provided by our field staff is beyond compare," Tamar Kutz, administrator for ambulatory operations at Memorial Health System, told The State Journal-Register. "There are no snow days or cold-weather days for our caregivers who travel to the homes of our patients in order to provide them with the care they need so they can stay in the comfort of their homes."
