University of Vermont Health Network adds supply company to ease post-acute transition

Morgan Haefner -

Burlington, Vt.-based Yankee Medical, a supplier of medical equipment, joined the Burlington-based University of Vermont Health Network to assist patients' transition from inpatient to home care, according to a VT Digger report.

Under the partnership, Yankee Medical technicians will complete home assessments earlier to flag potential issues before installing medical equipment, including wheelchairs and hospital beds.

John Brumsted, MD, president and CEO of UVM Health Network and CEO of UVM Medical Center in Burlington, told VT Digger, "Our vision is to support better and more timely access to equipment and services from Yankee Medical and our other main medical equipment suppliers so people can leave the hospital with what they need, just as an outpatient pharmacy works."

The supply company will maintain day-to-day operations and employment of its 22 workers under the partnership.
