Naloxone, known by the brand name Narcan, is a life-saving drug that acts as an antidote for opioid overdoses. In an attempt to address the national opioid abuse crisis, many police departments now supply the drug and train officers on how to administer it.
Currently, 38 states have at least one police department where officers carry the antidote, totaling to 971 naloxone programs as of April 26.
