Genomics company taps former Microsoft researcher as chief data scientist

Human Longevity, a San Diego-based genomics and health intelligence company, named David Heckerman, MD, PhD, its chief data scientist.

In this role, Dr. Heckerman will oversee an advanced analytics team. The team will focus on large-scale medical and genomic analysis, including information from Human Longevity's database of clinical, biological and behavioral sources.

Prior to joining Human Longevity, Dr. Heckerman led the genomics team at Microsoft. He worked as a researcher at Microsoft for 25 years, during which he led the company's first research team focused on machine learning and its first research team focused on computational biology.
