'Your days are numbered': Lawmakers sound off on insulin makers, pharma execs

Lawmakers blasted insulin makers and pharmacy benefit managers at the House Energy and Commerce subcommittee hearing on insulin prices April 10, according to STAT.

"I don't know how you people sleep at night," Rep. Jan Schakowsky, D-Ill., told the executives, according to STAT. "You're in trouble if you think you can just outtalk us without any transparency, without any accountability, I just want you to know your days are numbered."

Executives from Eli Lilly, Novo Nordisk, Sanofi, Express Scripts, OptumRx and CVS Health testified for their companies.

Throughout the hearing, the insulin manufacturers and pharmacy benefit managers blamed each other for the rising costs of insulin, and the blame game appeared to frustrate both Republicans and Democrats, who urged the executives to focus on solutions.

"I want to congratulate all of you because you have done something here today that we have been trying to do in Congress," said Rep. Buddy Carter, R-Ga., according to STAT. "And that is to create bipartisanship."
