The U.S. has donated and delivered 200 million COVID-19 vaccines to more than 100 countries as of Oct. 21, according to the United States Agency for International Development.
The agency said that over the next year, it and Covax, the World Health Organization-backed global vaccine distribution campaign, plan to donate more than 1 billion U.S.-made vaccines to low-income countries. It said the goal is to vaccinate 70 percent of the eligible global population by next year.
USAID also said it is providing oxygen services, testing, medical treatment and personal protective equipment for health workers in low-income countries to reduce COVID-19 transmission.
The U.S. in September bought 500 million more doses of Pfizer's vaccine to donate to low- income countries. The U.S. said it will donate the doses to the 55 member states of the African Union and 92 low- and middle-income countries, as defined by Covax.
