Alia Paavola -

As part of a U.S. restructuring effort, biopharmacutical company Sanofi will cut 160 jobs at its facility in Chattanooga, Tenn., according to the Chattanooga Times Free Press.

The affected jobs, which include positions in marketing, sales, research and development and some support functions, will move to New Jersey as the drugmaker reorganizes its consumer healthcare business.

Employees laid off in Chattanooga can can apply for the positions in New Jersey.

"Given the ever-changing self-care market, this will allow us to more effectively serve the consumers who rely on our products," a Sanofi spokesperson told The Chattanoogan.

The drugmaker will keep its manufacturing presence and 650 jobs in Chattanooga.

"We will continue to maintain a significant presence in Chattanooga with our manufacturing operations, which is not affected by these changes," Sanofi spokesperson Ashleigh Koss told the Times Free Press.
