Roche's Genentech to cut 223 jobs in California

Alia Paavola -

Genentech, a subsidiary of Swiss pharma giant Roche, is slashing 223 jobs from its headquarters in California, according to a recent WARN notice.

The layoffs will be permanent and will affect employees in several departments, according to EndPoints News.

Many details surrounding the layoffs remain undisclosed, including which employees will be cut, but the biotech company revealed layoffs will begin Aug. 31 and run into November.

In response to the layoffs, Genentech said its future success "depends on our ability to respond to change, appropriately allocate resources and manage our operations efficiently," according to EndPoints.

Last year Genetec laid off 130 employees at its manufacturing facility in Vacaville, Calif. Those layoffs came after the company performed a detailed business analysis.
