Prescription Drug Take Back Day is April 27: 3 things to know

To provide Americans a safe disposal place for medications, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration will host its 17th annual national Prescription Drug Take Back Day April 27.

Three things to know:

1. The 16th national Drug Take Back Day, held last October, brought in 914,236 pounds of unused or expired medications. There were 5,839 collection sites and 4,770 law enforcement participants.

2. The program was launched by the DEA in 2010 and occurs twice a year.

3. The DEA's Take Back Day website has a collection site locator allowing visitors to enter a ZIP code, county, city or state to find a place to drop off unused prescription drugs.
