Partnerships are key to Walgreens' survival, CEO says

Alia Paavola -

Walgreens remains committed to exploring partnerships to remain competitive and transform its business, the drugstore chain's CEO Stefano Pessina said at a healthcare summit this week, according to Forbes.

During an interview at the 2019 Forbes Healthcare Summit in New York, Mr. Pessina said Walgreens will continue to strike partnerships with players both in and out of the healthcare arena. Walgreens already has pilot projects and tests going with grocery chain Kroger, Microsoft and primary care provider VillageMD.

"The partnership is the best and cheapest way to transform the industry you are working in," Mr. Pessina said.

He added that it's vital for Walgreens to alter what is offers at its brick-and-mortar stores to remain afloat.

"It's obvious that the stores that we have today have to change to survive in the future environment," he said.
