Novant Health to open health clinics inside Walgreens

Maia Anderson -

Novant Health, a 15-hospital system in Winston-Salem, N.C., will open retail health clinics inside several Walgreens pharmacies in the state.

Staffed with physician assistants and nurse practitioners from Novant Health, the clinics will provide walk-in services to treat common illnesses and injuries as well as chronic care follow ups.

Novant Health patients will be able to fill their prescriptions at the attached Walgreens or any other Walgreens location.

"Our new clinics at Walgreens will allow patients to avoid the emergency room by expanding access to quality care for minor illnesses and injuries, and create a new avenue for Novant Health to support and care for our patients with chronic conditions," said Pam Oliver, MD, president of Novant Health Physician Network.

The first three North Carolina clinics will be located in Charlotte, Winston-Salem and Leland. They are expected to open in the first half of 2020. The companies also plan to expand the clinics to other areas in the state.

The clinics, called "Novant Health Express at Walgreens," will be open seven days a week.

As part of the deal, Walgreens also will acquire nine Novant Health retail pharmacies.
