McKesson will pay $37M to settle suit claiming it fueled West Virginia opioid epidemic

Alia Paavola -

McKesson has agreed to pay $37 million to resolve a lawsuit in West Virginia accusing the drug distributor of contributing to the opioid crisis.

The lawsuit claims McKesson failed to appropriately monitor the distribution of opioid painkillers to pharmacies in the state, which hurt West Virginia's vulnerable populations.

The lawsuit is one of hundreds McKesson faces related to the opioid epidemic.

The settlement terms require McKesson to pay $14.5 million  within three business days of the case's dismissal and to make five more payments of $4.5 million each year through 2024.

McKesson denies any wrongdoing.
