Walgreens will join Buckeye Health Plan, Ohio's second-largest Medicaid provider, just weeks after the state's top Medicaid provider dropped the retail pharmacy chain from its network, according to The Columbus Dispatch.
The deal with Buckeye Health Plan gives 300,000 Medicaid beneficiaries the option of filling their prescriptions at the 254 Walgreens in Ohio. It also expands Buckeye Health Plan's network by 10 percent.
On Oct. 31, CareSource, the state's largest Medicaid provider, said it dropped Walgreens from its network. Walgreens is the second-largest pharmacy retailer in Ohio.
About 3 million Ohioans are Medicaid beneficiaries and spend roughly $3 million on prescription drugs every year.
