Cigna-Express Scripts cap out-of-pocket 30-day insulin costs at $25

Morgan Haefner -

Cigna and Express Scripts launched a program that limits members' out-of-pocket insulin costs to $25 for a 30-day supply, the companies said April 3.

The Patient Assurance Program targets members of health plans with nongovernment pharmacy plans managed by Express Scripts. The program, available to members of Cigna and other health plans, will lower out-of-pocket costs for most members without an increase in plan prices.

In comparison, insulin users managed by Cigna and Express Scripts paid, on average, $41.50 out of pocket for a 30-day supply in 2018.

Cigna and Express Scripts will roll out the program by transferring covered insulin products to a lower copayment. The companies are working with insulin makers to lower copayments to $25.
