Amgen moves cloud infrastructure to Amazon Web Services

Biopharmaceutical company Amgen is migrating the "vast majority" of its cloud infrastructure to Amazon Web Services, Amazon said Nov. 27.

Amgen has worked with AWS, Amazon's cloud service, since 2012 to support various computing workloads. For example, Amgen has deployed platforms on AWS that allow its research and development scientists to run analytics for clinical pharmacology modeling and simulation.

The company plans to develop additional business applications on AWS using the cloud service's analytics, database, machine learning and storage capabilities.

"Biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies like Amgen are turning to the cloud to better leverage the vast amounts of clinical data available, unlocking deeper insights faster to help medical professionals treat their patients," said Mike Clayville, vice president of worldwide commercial sales at AWS. "We look forward to working with Amgen as they expand their use of AWS to evolve their business in the cloud."
