Below are 16 legal actions involving members of the drug supply chain, including pharmaceutical manufacturers, pharmacies, pharmacists, patient charities, distributors and executives, reported by Becker's Hospital Review in the last two months:

  1. Trump administration sues Gilead
    The Trump administration filed a lawsuit against Gilead Nov. 6, accusing the drugmaker of making billions of dollars from taxpayer-funded research without paying taxpayers back.

  2. Sanofi to pay $315M to settle claims it purposefully slowed MS drug development
    Sanofi has agreed to pay $315 million to settle claims that it slowed the development of a multiple sclerosis drug to avoid paying investors after the company acquired Genzyme Corp.

  3. 15 drugmakers to pay $242M to settle Illinois Medicaid fraud suit
    Fifteen drugmakers will pay the state of Illinois $242 million to settle allegations they published inflated average wholesale price information to increase Medicaid reimbursements, Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul said Oct. 28.

  4. Patient charities pay $6M to settle Medicare kickback allegations
    The Chronic Disease Foundation and the Patient Access Network Foundation paid $6 million to settle claims they helped drugmakers pay kickbacks to Medicare patients.

  5. Massachusetts biotech sues CMS for denying coverage of its drug

    Consumers have sued several Zantac manufacturers for allegedly failing to disclose that the heartburn drug can produce small amounts of a possible carcinogen.

    A new lawsuit claims a former CSL Behring senior medical affairs director stole more than 21,000 files containing valuable trade secrets before he left the company for a job at Pharming, a competing drugmaker.

    Johnson & Johnson and its subsidiary Ethicon will pay nearly $117 million to settle claims that they misrepresented the risks of transvaginal surgical mesh devices.

  9. Pharmacist sues New York hospital, says she was fired after reporting misconduct
    A former clinical pharmacist at Strong Memorial Hospital has filed a lawsuit claiming the Rochester, N.Y.-based provider fired her after she reported patient safety concerns and harassment.

  10. Jury orders J&J to pay $8B in Risperdal case
    A Philadelphia jury ordered Johnson & Johnson to pay $8 billion in punitive damages in a case accusing the drugmaker of downplaying the risks associated with its antipsychotic drug, Risperdal.

    Walgreens agreed Sept. 17 to settle a class-action lawsuit alleging it violated antitrust laws by restricting search advertisements.

  15. CVS to pay $4.4M settlement over inadvertent HIV disclosure of 4,500 patients
    CVS Health agreed to pay $4.4 million to settle a lawsuit accusing it of exposing the HIV status of roughly 4,500 Ohio patients. 

  16. Purdue Pharma reaches tentative deal to settle opioid suits
    OxyContin maker Purdue Pharma has reached a tentative deal with 23 states and more than 2,000 cities and counties that sued the company over its role in the opioid crisis.
