Yale Medicine, Anthem reach contract agreement

Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield and Yale Medicine, the clinical faculty at Yale School of Medicine in New Haven, Conn., reached a multi-year contract agreement two days before their existing contract expires, according to Yale Daily News.

Under terms of the new contract, the two organizations expect to broaden their relationship by implementing new cost management and quality assurance models, according to a statement from Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield.

Yale Medicine CEO Paul Taheri, MD, called the agreement a "recipe for success" because of its emphasis on prevention, wellness and care coordination, according to Yale Daily News.

Anthem issued members a notice of network termination with Yale Medicine earlier this year. The organizations reportedly disputed over reimbursement rates and burdensome administrative requirements for Yale providers baked into their existing contract.
