WellStar providers incorrectly listed as in-network for Anthem plan despite long dispute

Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield mistakenly listed WellStar Medical Group as a network provider for its ACA marketplace plan, according to an alert from the Office of Georgia Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner.

Anthem's 2020 Pathways Network in fact doesn't include WellStar Medical Group, the physician group of Marietta, Ga.-based WellStar Health System. State regulators urged enrollees who wish to change their plan selection to do so before a Dec. 15 deadline.

"We have been working closely with the Georgia Department of Insurance and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to correct this error," Anthem spokesperson Tina Gaines said in a prepared statement. "And we are committed to helping those customers who may wish to switch to another plan in light of this information."

The error comes after Anthem and WellStar publicly feuded over the Pathways Network. WellStar filed a lawsuit in late May claiming that Anthem Blue made false representations to customers by advertising on its website and in written materials that WellStar would be participating in the Pathways Network, when in fact it wasn't.
